Inspired by our donors

October 3, 2011

More often than not it is donors who are inspired by our incredible little shinning stars - hence their kind support - but every now and then we have the privilege of the situation being the other way around! This was the case with a group of King David Pre-Primary school children who collected jumble for us to sell in our monthly fund-raising sales.
'Learning to give to those that are less fortunate than us is an important message!' they say and demonstrated this by reaching out to 3 organisations in the broader community to see what they could do to help. We were lucky enough to be one of these!

Over the past month (corresponding with the hebrew month of Elul which is a charity month) the children have proudly collected and brought required items with them to school, thereby creating a wonderful supply of much needed goods for our monthly fund-raising sales. The school further say's 'In doing so, the children, and their families, continue to learn the valuable life lesson of giving.'

The stand out factor with this group was that they were all 4 and 5 year olds! The motivation we gathered from such a young group working together to make a difference to the world around them was immeasurable and we are most grateful for not only this but also their support in actual kind. How can such a school not be creating future leaders for our country? Thanks so much to everyone involved - we greatly appreciate your support and you are always welcome to visit!

At Eleven

June 20, 2011

Shed tears of joy at first sight

And accepted him as he was

My disabled son

A unique part of our family

Wheeled everywhere in his wheelchair

He had a simple dimpled smile

And large bright eyes

Only using his left hand

In a happy mood he hopped from one foot to the othe...

Jumble Sale Frenzy

September 14, 2010

The customers started queuing at 07:30 in the morning – even though the gates would only be opened at 10:30, and we knew it was going to be a good day! It’s the 28th of August 2010 and we’re holding one of Nkanyezi’s regular jumble sales at the school for children with multiple disabilities grounds in Orlando West, Soweto. The sales are held to supplement the small funding that is received from the government and is necessary to cover costs from food to toilet paper and fire hydrants....
