The customers started queuing at 07:30 in the morning – even though the gates would only be opened at 10:30, and we knew it was going to be a good day! It’s the 28^th of August 2010 and we’re holding one of Nkanyezi’s regular jumble sales at the school for children with multiple disabilities grounds in Orlando West, Soweto. The sales are held to supplement the small funding that is received from the government and is necessary to cover costs from food to toilet paper and fire hydrants. This jumble sale was the biggest and best yet though as we had the widest range of jumble to sell and shattered our previous jumble sale record of R2000 by more than 50%, raising a total of R3040. To round off the successful day all helpers celebrated with a braai and few drinks afterwards in the sun and spent the time strategising about how to make the next jumble sale even bigger and better!
